“This is your lucky day. We must hurry” Kinam tells me as he gets off the phone. Not exactly the words you want to hear as you head towards a crematorium.

“We have a donation” he adds by way of explanation, picking up the pace.

Well yes, don’t want to miss that. Although I don’t appear to be quite as excited about watching a cornea ‘recovery’ as I could be.

Kinam is an eye bank technician at Tilganga. It’s where they keep the eyes - corneal tissue if you want to be precise, and when you work in the eye bank, precise is exactly what you want to be.

Kinam is excited to show me the whole process which often starts across the road from Tilganga, at the Pushnahpati crematorium where they have an office.
